Restaurants

  • Inside a windowless, unassuming building in Kemah rests a restaurant that comes alive using state-of-the-art technology. Eculent transports its guests to places never imagined with an avant-garde menu like no other. You’ll need a reservation in advance - people wait months to get in - however, we believe that Eculent is one of the best restaurants in Kemah, and possibly all of Texas… it's quite the experience!

  • Our friend Beth not only makes one of the hands-down best Old Fashions in Kemah, she also created the entire Cocktail menu herself! Opus Grille, located in the Watergate Yachting Center, has a wide variety of seafood dishes on their menu - our favorites being the Blackened Grouper, Crab Fingers, and Shrimp and Grits! Though you’ll be stuffed from the amazing seafood, you have to try the bread pudding. Our family loves desserts, and we all agree that this is one of the best desserts we have ever had. Opus is every locals favorite!

kemah boardwalk

Right on the water, Kemah Boardwalk is the attraction that pulls people of all ages, and from all over, to Kemah Texas. With amusement rides, restaurants, carnival foods, shops, boat watching, and more, there is something for everyone at Kemah Boardwalk. And to top it off, it is only blocks away from the Clipper!

A few of the multiple attractions on the Kemah Boardwalk include:

  • With shark teeth painted on the outside of the boat, the Boardwalk Beast takes you on a 25 minute ride 4 miles out into the Galveston Bay. You will be blasted with wind (from the speed of the cruise), music, entertainment, and maybe even a splash of water when adventuring the Galveston Bay on the Boardwalk Beast.

  • To be honest, no one in our family has gotten the guts to board the Boardwalk Bullet in the 6 years we’ve lived in the area. Standing at 96 feet tall, the Boardwalk bullet is one of the few wooden roller coasters in the USA. Within seconds, you are flying down a 92 foot vertical drop only 5 feet away from the edge of Galveston Bay - the Boardwalk Bullet also has 42 crossover tracks, which is more than any other wooden roller coaster!

  • Get a beautiful view of Galveston Bay from 65 feet in the air on this relaxing ferris wheel. We highly suggest riding it at night, the view is always amazing!

  • If you want to see the Bay from even higher, you’ll have to stomach the 140 foot drop accompanied with it. With your feet dangling over 140 feet above the Galveston Bay, get ready to freefall back to the Boardwalk on Jessie's favorite Boardwalk ride!

Now if you’re not looking for that big of an adrenaline rush, some of the more grounded attractions include:

  • A replica of the 1863 C.P. Huntington Train, this relaxing ride will take you on a tour of the entire boardwalk. Be sure to take notes as you go along so you know what to go back to at the end of the ride!

  • This is undoubtedly our family's favorite thing to do at Kemah Boardwalk. The Aquarium has many exhibits including a rainforest exhibit and Stingray Reef. At Stingray Reef you are able to see, feed and touch the live stingrays in a way that's safe for both you and them!

  • Midway Games - from Ring Toss to Water Gun races, the Midway Games at Kemah Boardwalk are your typical carnival games - just feet away from the Galveston Bay

  • Located all around the Boardwalk, you’ll see what looks like a gumball machine filled with dry cat food… and that's exactly what it is! For 25¢ you can get a handful of fish food to throw overboard and watch over 50 Hardhead Catfish fish battle for the food!

Along with all the fun rides and adventures you can find on Kemah Boardwalk are some of the most amazing restaurants in Kemah! All right on the water, there is something for everyone:

If you’re looking for some grab-and-go carnival food, Kemah Boardwalk has just about everything you could want. Funnel Cakes, Oreo-Stuffed FUN-nel Cakes, Cotton Candy, Hot Dogs, Turkey legs (Matthews personal favorite) and more can be found all around the Boardwalk!

If you're looking for a more sit-down type meal, the restaurants on the Boardwalk include:

  • Located in the Aquarium is the Aquarium Eatery where you can get anything from Mahi Mahi to fried calamari. If you're looking for something that's a little more grass-fed, the Aquarium has a good American Burger too.

  • A seafood house of choice for decades, watch the boats go by while enjoying some of the best fresh seafood creations in Kemah. With choices from Island Redfish to the Dutchman Cobb Salad (Jessie’s favorite dish), The Flying Dutchman is one of our families favorite places to go. Alexie’s favorite part of The Flying Dutchman is the playground connected to it. Sitting outside, watching the boats roll by, and letting the little ones play is the perfect way to end the day.

  • Looking for something a little lighter, or even a breakfast to start the day? The Bayside Grille offers soups, sandwiches, beignets, morning coffee, and more!

  • This world-famous restaurant is even better when enjoyed on Galveston Bay. Enjoy “...uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich…” (Bubba Gump, from the movie Forrest Gump), and many more dishes!

  • Once you get your fill of shrimp, the Pizza Oven can bring you back from the water with their variety of thin-crust, stone-hearth baked pizzas.

  • Enjoy fresh seafood, amazing steaks, and some of the best desserts around while watching the boats go by at this well-known restaurant on the Boardwalk.

  • Bill’s Bar & Burger of New York - with a signature burger named on CNN’s “Top 10 Burgers in America”, enjoy mouthwatering burgers, monster plus shakes, and piles of french fries while enjoying the beautiful Galveston Bay.

Once you have gotten your fill of adrenaline, food, and fun, check out some of the fun shops and kiosks all over the Boardwalk to take home a fun souvenir. If you’re looking for something a little more handmade, the airbrush tattoo artists, henna tattoo artists, face painters, and Caricature artists would be happy to show you their skills! The Candy Box at Kemah Boardwalk offers any candies you could think of, and ones you never knew existed!

Kemah Boardwalk is an amazing way to spend a beautiful day in Kemah. If you’re determined to ride all the rides the Boardwalk has to offer, the All Day pass has you covered. If there's just a few you want to try out, you can get individual tickets for the rides. If you just want to see the sights and walk the Boardwalk, you’re free to stroll around!
